Our Breeding Priorities:
We don’t breed for show. Our breeding priorities are, in a
nutshell, health and happiness in family pets. I’m more concerned with a robust,
loving dog than a dog with perfectly sized ears, and a tail that’s less than six
inches in length. For example: one of our favourite girls flattens her ears
whenever she gets excited or affectionate. It's adorable, but it doesn't
"conform" to the ideal breed standard. However, she is a dear sweet girl who
loves our children and we think she's drop dead gorgeous, too. Her puppies have
been just amazing, and we're thrilled to have her as part of our kennel.
My breeding priorities may differ from other Ontario Scottie breeders, but I let
my dogs (or, their families, rather!) speak for themselves: references are
always available, and people who visit our kennel have the chance to meet and
play with our dogs, particularly the parents of puppies for sale.
Rest assured, just because they aren’t showdogs doesn’t mean our dogs don’t look
like Scotties – whenever we take our Scots out in public we’re routinely stopped
because people recognize the distinctive “Scottie dogs” and want to have a
visit. A few years ago we took our hound cross and our first Scottie (our
foundation dog) to Manhattan to visit a friend. I was walking the hound, while
my husband walked the Scottie. Every two blocks or so I would stop and realize
once again that I was alone; turning back, I would yet again see my husband
“talking Scot” with a New Yorker who had stopped him to chat and meet our girl.
Walking a Scottie is a lot like driving a Smart Car: be prepared for people to
stop you and ask admiring questions!
